Aunque la ciudad de Lodz había intentado crear su propia universidad desde mediados del S. XIX, debido sobre todo al gran desarrollo de su industria textil en aquella época, sus gestiones no dieron resultado hasta 1945. Su primera Facultad fue la de Ingeniería Textil, que hoy en día se denomina de Ingeniería y Marketing Textil.
Su Facultad de Tecnología de Materiales y de Diseño Textil alberga el Instituto de Arquitectura de Tejidos y los Departamentos de fibras man-made, tecnología del punto, tecnología de la confección, maquinaria textil, etc.
Although Lodz had tried to create its own university since mid-nineteenth century, mainly due to the great development of the textile industry, its efforts were unsuccessful until 1945. Its first school -today called Textile Engineering and Marketing- was devoted to textile engineering.
Nowadays its School of Materials Technology and Textile Design houses the Architecture Institute of Textiles and the Departments of man-made fibres, knitwear technology, clothing technology, textile machinery, etc.
