The Japanese retailer MUJI allies with the Elisava school
Elisava, School of Design and Engineering of Barcelona, collaborates with MUJI to commemorate the first anniversary of its flagship store in Barcelona.
| 21.11.2019 | The collaboration arises from the need to exchange new concepts, proposals and innovative ideas created by young talents. This is achieved by connecting the professional and academic world, in this case between the Japanese brand MUJI and the Elisava school of design and engineering.

Professional links
In this agreement have been involved both students, who have been involved in a real project that has brought them closer to the professional market, as teachers and experts in the sector. The collaboration has been carried out with the objective of creating professional links between people, companies and local institutions.
Elisava has worked on two projects:
- The ideation, design and production of the new store window. Made by 6 students of the Retail Lab (retail research laboratory d´Elisava); and directed by Carmen Malvar, director of the Master in Retail of Elisava.
- The design of the commemorative MUJI totebag.

In order to choose the final design of the MUJI totebag, 40 proposals have been submitted by the students of the Elisava Design Degree and tutored by the teacher, Francesc Ribot. Only one of these designs will be selected by the Japanese brand MUJI and will be available in store.
Essence through absence
After the investigation, ideation and design carried out during a month by the students of the school, «Essence through absence» arises; the new concept for the showcase of the flagship store in Paseo de Gracia (Barcelona). He intends to make all those who see him think about the excesses of today’s life, where it is considered that purifying these excesses is the essence of things.
To capture the concept, the showcase is composed of a large curtain made of translucent Japanese fabrics that cover the new MUJI storefront. In this curtain, you can see written the concept message and different words with the names of the most emblematic and representative products of the brand followed by all the actions you can do with them.
