Sewing the past
Under the title «Sewing the past», the School of Design ESDi has scheduled a day dedicated to sustainable fashion, which will take place on June 6 at Espai Emprius (Sabadell, Barcelona). The event proposes a reflection on the current fashion system and the need to stop along the way and take a responsible attitude towards the environment.

Round table
The event will begin at 18:30 with a round table, which will be formed by professionals who have carried out their fashion projects under a sustainable philosophy. The debate will be moderated by Encarna Ruiz, PhD in Journalism from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Director of the University Department of Theory and Design Analysis of the ESDi School of Design. His research career is part of the social analysis and diagnosis of social trends that directly affect the different areas of design.
Speakers
- Clara Davis, textile designer with interest in pattern making, weaving and the discovery of biomaterials. Currently, she works at the Fab Textiles of the Fab Lab in Barcelona. One of its motivations is the discovery of new methods and materials that are ethical and sustainable.
- Back to Eco, a sustainable fashion brand dedicated to extending the life cycle of post-consumer denim through unique garments. They repair, design, make and re-spin creating new ethical and sustainable products.
- Pasqual Arnella, brand that tries to approach the concept of sustainability in fashion, not from the garment, but from other elements that intervene, such as exhibition mannequins. During this last year they have developed the first line of mannequins made of 100% recycled and recyclable paper pulp, proposing a responsible alternative to the environment.
- Marcel·lí Pérez, textile engineer from the UPC of Terrassa and PDD to IESE. He has a long experience in recognized companies in the sector such as Benetton, Grupo Sans and Desigual. Currently, Fundació Indicis works on projects, training and dissemination of sustainability in fashion.
The debate will be divided into five blocks: explanation of the proposal and philosophy of each speaker, initial motivation to enter the field of sustainable fashion, positive aspects when launching a responsible project with the environment, opportunities and difficulties of the projects and response from public and private entities, and, finally, prospective of sustainable fashion.

Parade of upcycling pieces
The students of 2º of the Official Degree in Design of the School of Design ESDi will present their projects of upcycling garments. The parade will start at 19:30 and will be carried out by garments made with waste and recycled and reused materials.
With this day devoted to responsible fashion, the ESDi Design School aims to raise awareness of the value of sustainability in one of the most polluting industries, also affected by hyper-consumption derived from fast fashion. Learn to convert, revalue and recycle to favour global change towards a circular economy.
