Franca Sozzani Award for the Best Collection
The «1933» collection by Carla Alberch was awarded by an international jury composed of Elisa Pervinca Bellini, Talent Editor of Vogue Italia; Charo Izquierdo, (former) Director of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Madrid; Marta Coca, director of 080 Barcelona Fashion; and Estermaria Laruccia, director of Valmont Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week.
The collection was inspired by the memories of the designer’s grandfather, who grew up in a textile printing factory with a family tradition. This proposal investigated new ways of printing on fabrics following the technique «à la Lyonnaise», typical of the company.
The six looks designed for men evoked the clothing of the sixties and the clothes that his grandfather wore. The proposal reinterpreted the typical garments of the moment with natural materials such as cotton or silk. It exploited the idea of a unique garment with rough fabrics and neutral colours to offer quality garments. The prints, present throughout the collection and handmade, were conceived as memories of the past that are still present today reinterpreting the original drawings of the company.
Isabel Coixet Award for Best Fashion Film
We highlight the audiovisual proposals for their collections created by young people, who wanted to reward them for their artistic, visual and creative value. For this reason, the prestigious film director Isabel Coixet was in charge of highlighting the cinematographic look and the talent of the creators.
«Diary of a grown up girl» by Beatriz Caballer was the fashion film winner of the award, which she delivered through a video of thanks from Isabel Coixet at the end of the parade. The proposal of the student of the Superior Degree in Fashion Design, Fashion Styling and Communication itinerary, was inspired by the life of her grandmother, marked by a post-war crude and different adversities that have led her to define her personality.
Manuel Outumuro Award for Best Shooting
In order to finish, the prize that bears the name of the renowned photographer Manuel Outumuro, who has chosen the Amalia Rebollo project with his collection «Eduarda», was awarded. It is a proposal composed of seven looks inspired by puppets to explain a story full of poetry, doubts, pressure and liberation. Designs bathed in white that little by little are dyed grey charcoal and that recover their light, in the end, to manifest a release as a parallelism of the experiences lived throughout life.
The garments took as reference the silhouettes of the Victorian era. They presented subtle manipulations inspired by paper with rigid fabrics along with lighter ones like silk organza and tulle. Corsets, interior structures and rigid fabrics defined clean and structured silhouettes. All of them reflected the repression sensation and the social expectations that, being tinged with white, are pristine.
