Romanzo breve di moda maschile, an exhibition by Pitti Uomo
The Fondazione Pitti Immagine Discovery commemorates the 30th anniversary of Pitti Uomo (fair held in Florence between June 11 and 14) with the Romanzo breve di moda maschile exhibition.

The exhibition shows thirty years of men’s fashion – from 1989 to the present – through Pitti’s eyes Uomo He does it through a walk through the halls of the Palazzo Pitti Museo della Moda e del Costume, in which Olivier Saillard – creator and curator of the exhibition – tells the story and evolution of men’s fashion.
A review of Pitti Immagine’s 30 years
The exhibition shows creations of designers who have starred in the most outstanding events of Pitti Uomo between 1989 and 2019; and compiles a selection of garments from some 150 exhibiting brands, 30 of which have represented inflexion points for the fair.
Saillard focuses on the tandem between Made in Italy and guest designers, international contemporary fashion talents and leading men’s fashion entrepreneurs. The project also represents a tribute to Marco Rivetti, president of Pitti Immagine from 1987 to 1995.
«Many of the men – and women – who transformed men’s fashion with their creativity have gone through Florence,» says Olivier Saillard. «Whether in changing environments, classic or daring (and always in the hands of the city of Florence) these fashion creators conceived the most groundbreaking, innovative and risky fashion shows to extol their collections,» Saillard added.
Romanzo breve di moda maschile
The exhibition leads to the creation of a permanent collection of men’s fashion. This is the Men´s Fashion collection, by Fondazione Discovery, which will be donated to the Museo della Moda e del Traje del Palazzo Pitti.
Each room of the museum houses pages of a large book that poetically presents its contents. Page after page, the exhibition tracks the different trends of men’s fashion thanks to the presentations of numerous special guests of Pitti Uomo. In a capricious and fictional style, the book examines men’s fashion and its protagonists.

Published and distributed worldwide by Marsilio Editore and designed by Studio Lenthal. The book will feature pieces by Angelo Flaccavento, Antonio Mancinelli, Frédéric Martin-Bernard, Suzy Menkes, Serena Tibaldi and Olivier Saillard. With comments from Giorgia Cantarini and photography by Astra Marina Cabras.
