The CSDMM-UPM and Tendam analyze the challenges in sustainable fashion
The conference `The challenge of sustainability in the textile industry´ will be held on December 12 at the Springfield Store on Calle Alcalá Nº 98 (Madrid).
| 10.12.2019 | Coinciding with the celebration of the Climate Summit in Madrid, the Superior Center of Fashion Design of Madrid of the Polytechnic University of Madrid and Tendam, together with the City Council of Madrid, organize a meeting on the challenge of sustainability in the textile industry within the ‘University Classroom’ program, framed in the agreement between both entities to continue working for a sustainable fashion.
Ethics and sustainability
During the day, which will be held on December 12, professionals from CSDMM and Tendam, industry leaders and representatives of the Madrid City Council will address the reality of the industry and discuss the need to adapt to the new demands of producing more ethical and respectful products with the environment.
Specifically, Ignacio Sierra, Tendam Corporate General Director; Concha Díaz de Villegas Soláns, General Director of Commerce and Entrepreneurship of the Madrid City Council; Javier Jiménez-Leube, Vice-Chancellor of Institutional Communication and External Promotion of the UPM; Manuel Blanco, Director of ETSAM-UPM and CEO of CSDMM-UPM; Albert Mora, Springfield Design Director and Guillermo García-Badell, CSDMM-UPM Director will meet at this meeting open to the public.
Also, during the day, representatives of the Tendam Classroom-Higher Center for Fashion Design will present the call for the End of Degree Work Awards aimed at recognizing the best projects of future promises of Spanish design in the field of sustainability, responsibility and innovation in fashion design. An award that shows the University’s commitment to the challenges of today’s world and is presented as a contribution from the UPM to the 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Madrid Center for Fashion Design
The Superior Center of Fashion Design of Madrid, CSDMM, of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), was recognized with the 2016 National Fashion Award and occupies the first position as the best University Center of Spain to study the Degree of Design, according to the U-Ranking report of the BBVA Foundation and the Valencian Institute of Economic Research.
Throughout these years, the Center and the UPM have kept the training project constantly adapting by incorporating the Official University Degree in Fashion Design and the PhD Program related to Fashion. In addition, they have opted since their inception to have leading designers in the national and international fashion scene as teachers of their training program in which they teach a complete program where they transfer the design techniques and the reality of the industry.
The Center has among its professors outstanding designers such as Ana Locking, Juan Vidal, Maya Hansen, María Ke Fisherman, Daniel Rabaneda or Miguel Becer, who work in a training with an eminently practical criterion and oriented to a progressive integration of students in the world professional.
